It’s been a couple of busy weeks here. The garden is almost fully planted now. We’ve doubled it’s size and this year decided to plant larger quantities of fewer vegetables. The goal being a full year’s supply of all our favorite Dual-Duty vegetables like carrots, beets and turnips. This means that our composting and food preservation efforts will also need to expand.
I have been dealing with some dental problems recently and will be taking the plunge into full dentures over the next two weeks. This has been an eventuality that I’ve been coming to grips with for awhile now. My wife and associates have been very supportive and have mentioned more than a few times that if the “balloon” ever does “go up”, I won’t have to worry about any fatal dental infections. The molds have been made and the dentist is fabricating my new teeth. Extraction Day is June 4th, I plan to provide some updates as this proceeds.

Here’s a powdered rehydration drink recipe that we’ve been using for a few years now. Adjust the sugar and salt amounts to your personal taste. We keep a few bags in our EDC gear to use in a hurry wherever we happen to be. Makes 2 quarts.
- 1 package of unsweetened drink mix, Lemon-Lime and Punch flavors are my favorites.
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1/2 tsp of iodized salt
- 1/2 tsp of potassium salt substitute (Morton Lite Salt)

If you haven’t been to the Hesperian website recently you might want to check it out. The Books and Resources Page not only has the familiar books “Where There Is No Doctor” and “Where There Is No Dentist” but has several other Health Guides available for sale or download as well. You will need to register.

We plan to enjoy the Memorial weekend with friends and family. Some time spent fishing and sitting by the campfire will be a welcome relief. We hope that you and yours have a safe and satisfying holiday!
